Iceland Rising
Organic paper, Inkjet Ink, Water, Glass Test Tubes
2016
Ongoing Ephemeral Installation
Iceland Rising utilizes pairs of Icelandic landscape photographs taken in the same location in 2011 and 2016 and printed on organic paper. The 16 pairs of photographs were placed in glass test tubes with varying amounts of water. The water levels represent the rising land in these location over the past five years. The photographs are both contained in their respective vessels, and in a constant state of degradation. The organically printed images will continue to break apart and become increasingly unrecognizable over time. This transformation references the drastic shifts currently taking place in the Icelandic landscape. The irretrievability of the original image refers to the impossibility of total preservation of both image and the landscape it depicts.
